Blog #2

Last month was a big step launching my website and social media sites. It's been a steep learning curve, but every day I'm learning a little bit more. Alongside my new business venture I also have a job at the hospital, work as a musician, and regularly compete in triathlons. However, since triathlon season has now finished, and I constantly like to push myself to new challenges (I haven't managed to work out why) I rather rashly entered a race which will take place on 18 October. I completed my first ultramarathon last November (an ultra is anything over the marathon distance of 26.2 miles) on the Dava Way, a distance of 50k. This year it's a race of a very different kind. A 4.33 mile loop in Tentsmuir Forest, near Dundee, with a time limit of 8 hours. I'm going with some friends ("join us, it'll be fun" they said) with a great deal of apprehension as I don't have time to get the preparation in that I would prefer.

However, once the idea was in my head, it took hold. A minor injury after my last triathlon looked like derailing the plan and, astonishingly, I found I would be really disappointed if I couldn't enter. It will be a true test of endurance, mental fortitude and physical capabilities and of course I am filled with doubts and trepidation - but I also know that the only way to find out if I can do it is to toe that start line and begin. And since I'm in the business of promoting stepping out of your comfort zone I'd better just jolly well get on with it .

Check back here for next month's blog to find out if I did it!!
